Day Three!

UGH! No weight loss no weight gain.. Exactly 228.4.. So I went back to the book to see if I am doing something wrong and one of the great things about Dr. Dukan is that he addresses all sorts of problems people encounter in the weight loss battle... mine happens to be that "time" of the month. An expert from his book says "A women gains about 2-4 lbs during this time of month from water retention" so as MUCH as I really really want to eat my frustration away with a McDonalds strawberry shake and small fry (my usual cure-all) I didn't and wont....so I did not loose any weight in ONE day... I can tell my body is changing in just the itsy bitsiest way so I am holding on. YEAH ME!

Oh Dr. Dukan's book also says on day three your hunger usually does away and your energy comes back...my experience has been a little different.

Day ONE: HORRIBLY HARD:
Day TWO: MUCH BETTER...
DAY THREE: UGH! Hard and hungry all day
Day FOUR: Not hungry at all, drank tons of water
Day FIVE: We shall see!

Day 2 eats results and tips....

Drum roll please! I lost 1 lb 8 ounces.. that's almost 2 pounds! Whoot! For a total of 2 lbs 8 ounces in two days.. So happy..so motivated..Hmmm Motivation...what a strange word to roll off my tongue after so long of living in frustration land....

Breakfast:

2 Lipton tea bags with milk creme (1% milk + low fat vanilla soy milk with cinnamon and sweet n low added)
5 egg whites + 1 egg

Lunch:

I had errands to run so I grabed my milk creme added so ice and went out the door- probably drank a good16 oz

Snack:
Home starving from errands I rolled smoked turkey lunch meat into a slice of 2% provolone cheese and devoured it

Dinner:
I mixed low fat ground turkey with a package of low fat 8 grams of fat per 4 oz of hamburger meat plus lots of Mrs Dash table blend and salt, pepper, and garlic salt and made big meat balls. I also added no-fat creme cheese into the inside of the meatballs and they were DELICIOUS! I only ate 1 at dinner with some spicy brown mustard. YUM

After Dinner Snack:

Two provolone cheese and turkey lunch meat wraps, half a meat ball from dinner and a sugar free, fat free jello cup.

You may notice I have not consumed any of the required Oat bran yet and it was because I did not have any. I found two different types at my local Safeway grocery store and will have my 1 1/2 teaspoons today.

TIP OF THE DAY:
I have two. I discovered we can have pickles. PICKLES! I love and adore a good pickle so I will incorporate these into my cooking soon and to add variety to my trusty fruit punch crystal light I bought no sugar no carbs no salt Perrier water and now add it to my drink and its really yummy and fizzy!

Marinated Barbecued Chicken (Attack + Cruise + Consolidation + Stabilization)

 2 servings

Ingredients:

Two half chicken breasts
Marinade:
1/2 cup Greek yogurt
1 tablespoon chopped garlic
2 teaspoons Sriracha sauce
2 tablespoons Pickled Peppers Pre-mix
1 tablespoon lemon zest (optional)
2 tablespoons chopped, fresh herbs

Lime Dipping Sauce:

1 cup fat-free lime yogurt (can use plain Greek yogurt with lime extract)
1 tablespoon chopped fresh herbs

Instructions:

1. Mix all the ingredients well and marinate two half chicken breasts (boneless or bone-in) in the refrigerator for 3 to 4 hours, or overnight. Make sure the chicken is completely coated with the yogurt mixture.
2. When you're ready to cook the chicken, remove it from the marinade and wipe off the excess marinade to make sure it doesn't burn during cooking.
3. Barbecue the chicken for about 10 minutes on each side. Or bake it in a 350°F oven for 20 minutes. If using skewers, make sure to soak them in water for an hour.

Pickled Peppers:

You’ll need a jar of whole or sliced gherkins or dill pickles (no salt added), a small can of pickled, sliced jalapenos from the Mexican aisle of the supermarket, and a small bottle of capers. (These
may be in the condiment section or you can find the Goya brand in the Mexican food section.)
Measure out:
1 cup gherkins, drained
1 cup jalapenos, drained
Chop finely in the food processor, but don’t puree.
(makes enough for future use in other dishes)

Add:
¼ cup capers, drained (optional)

Lime Dipping Sauce:

May serve with lime dipping sauce. Heat fat-free lime yogurt very gently in the microwave or on the stove on medium heat. Do not boil. Add a tablespoon of chopped fresh herbs

Day Two!

Hello Happy Dukan Dieters!

Well its officially day two even though  posted my first day of the diet this morning I officially started it on Monday the 22nd.

I lost 1 lb. Whoot! The headaches, the tired-ness, the unsure-ness (is this a word?) was all worth it. Do you know how hard it is too loose a lb in a single day for me!

AND... I am stoked to say I woke up this morning with no headache and a new resolve! I went back to the Dukan site to read a few success stories and one was truly inspiring and motivating, coupled with my 1 lb loss and I am moving forward.

This morning I learned something new... I discovered if you drink something warm it really helps with hunger. If you read my 1st blog you know I skipped the coffee fix yesterday and paid for it dearly later with a headache. So this morning I put two teabags in a huge cup of hot water and added my warm vanilla milk/soymilk discovery to it and added lots of sweet n low (I have to go out and get splenda later) and it was scrumptious. I did not make coffee simply because I ran out so I will try coffee tomorrow morning and save my tea maybe for mid afternoon!

After drinking the tea I was not hungry until about 10:30am so then I made 5 egg whites with 1 regular egg with a pinch of olive oil and lots of black pepper and salt.

Lunch to come soon!

Ground Zero!

Day One of the Dukan Diet: I knew what I needed to do.. eat protein and then more protein..it sounds easy but deliverance was another story entirely...Lets do some background stats before continuing shall we.

I am 38 years old. I currently weigh(ed) 230 lbs I had Lapband surgery 2 years ago and have lost and gained 60lbs with it but have only been able to maintain 30lbs loss in the two years. Can you say AGGRAVATED and HOPELESS! I was sooo excited about the Lapband. Surely that was my ticket to weight loss success! But *sigh it was not.. I found myself still eating garbage like Cheetos and my beloved sunflower seeds and just throwing up if I ate to much...I have been on that cycle as I said for almost two years and am just tired ...probably malnourished and DONE.

So when I read about the Dukan diet in a magazine I thought....HEY eat as much as I want, no calorie counting or journal keeping. no points, no weird foods.. sounds like I can do this! So I started looking up what I could find.

Dr. Dukan's website is very informative. http://www.dukandiet.com/The-Dukan-Diet and you can convert your weight into the pound system we use here in America instead of the kilo system used in Europe. But I could not find allot of recipes that sounded good to my taste buds or a "day-in-the-life" tracking system so here is mine. I hope you enjoy!

Day One: The Morning

So if you are anything like me you LOVE coffee..well maybe not coffee itself but the caffeinated surge that races through your veins in the morning to help your eyes crack open..but also add LOTS of scrumptious coffee creme like Cinnamon Vanilla and a little Soy Vanilla Milk and you have a creamy concoction that makes you purr...

I knew this was going to be the hardest to change so I made the mistake of simply having NO coffee yesterday morning (more on this later)

Instead I made eggs. Lots of eggs. I personally do not like the taste of eggs so I cracked 5 eggs and just used the egg whites (MUCH better taste if you to do not like the taste of eggs) and used 1 whole egg for a little fat and flavor. I added LOTS of salt and pepper and some garlic salt and a touch of olive oil also approved on the Dukan diet but in very tiny portions for cooking only and ate it at 9:00am with a diet Coke (allowed on the Dukan Diet)

By 10:30am I was hungry again so I ate a Hebrew National Hot dog with Mustard and was craving something sweet and discovered you can drink Crystal Lite so I made the Fruit Punch kind and drank and drank

After this I went back to sleep, not a good idea but I am currently a horrible sleeper and was up late last night and without that beloved coffee surge I was so sleepy.

Day One: The Afternoon

I awoke at 12:00pm astonished that I had slept that late and got up to do some dishes and cook. For lunch I made lemon pepper chicken. I cut up chicken breast and added lemon juice to them in a frying pan with lots and lots of black pepper and just a touch of soy sauce. I researched and discovered if it has very very low sugar content its okay to use and soy sauce has less than 1 gram. I added some water in the pan and cut up some red onion and added it. I also discovered you are allowed 1 onion a day in all phases of the diet. I simmered the chicken until cooked, took off the lid and let it fry to get brown and crispy and ate.

By 2:00pm I was hungry again so I had 1 cup of 2% Cottage Cheese.

By 4:00pm I was hungry again so I has a cup of 1% milk with Cinnamon on top. Can I tell you HOW lovely it was to smell something sweet by then. Ahhh the smell of Cinnamon lifted my spirts like only chocolate covered donuts did before. I highly recommend the use of Cinnamon on any treats or sweets you try to create.

Day One: The Evening

By 6:00pm I had attempted to make deviled eggs to eat along with our family dinner of carne asada (skirt steak marinated in its own meat juices and lemon or lime juice usually)

For the deviled eggs I mixed non fat, non sugared Greek yogurt from Costco to a blender with green onions and just one teaspoon of low fat feta cheese and the eggs yolks. I mixed it all up with a Cuisinart but you can mash it all up easily with out one too and lots of salt and pepper. UGH lets just say it was less than desirable!

My sweet husband ate several of them but I think more out of love and hungry that out of joy. My 5 yr old ate 1 but she too did not enjoy them. If anyone knows of a better recipe please let me know. I am going on a hunt for fat free sugar free mayo today so I will report back on my findings.

Unfortunately the Carne Asada we purchased (Costco) was already salted and my hubby added more so it was was too salty for me to enjoy so I did not eat much dinner.

We went on a 20 min walk which is required daily on the Dukan diet and I was just miserable by the time we got home. Hot, sweaty my head was pounding from the lack of caffeine today and that walk I wanted to just crawl under a rock and die but I thought to myself, if this is the worse that it gets, I can do this for today. We got home and put the little one to bed, thank you my husband! and I broke down and ate a bit of cheddar cheese and a glass of milk creme.

Let me explain my milk creme though.. YUM! Pour 1% milk and low fat soy milk in a blender and add ice, vanilla extract  and cinnamon to it and blend and enjoy, creamy, frothy and delicious. It was my saving point. I was still hungry though so I made three eggs and added just a pinch (really) of cheddar cheese and a pinch of olive oil with salt and pepper and scarfed it down. I AM A NIGHT EATER. Anyone else????

I crawled into bed at 9:30 with a head-ache and fell asleep. So here is my 1st day of food recap:

Breakfast:
5 egg whites 1 whole egg lots of salt and pepper
1 Hebrew National Hot dog (not recommended on the Dukan Diet because it has high fat) and mustard
Diet Coke and fruit punch crystal lite
